The Battle Surgeon: Going to War With Yourself

Updated: Apr 3

The liberation of African people begins not on the battlefield of external forces alone, but in the internal war each of us must be willing to fight within ourselves. In a recent presentation, a profound podcast by Carlos Vasquez was uploaded featuring Baba Adisa Fatiu, who spent 17 and a half years in prison, regarding the true nature of manhood, transformation, and personal accountability.

From this conversation, a powerful concept emerged, the idea of the "battle surgeon," a name given to a VanGuard who understood that the deepest struggle is the one waged inside our own character. Baba Adisa described how the concept first emerged through a conversation with Baba Imhotep: "he was like you [Adisa] always going to war with yourself...and battle surgery is being able to go inside of yourself, take out what's bad and replace it with the things that heal." This is the essence of the New African Revolutionary VanGuard, not just warriors in the streets, but disciplined people who have done the internal work to remove what weakens them and replace it with the knowledge, love, and clarity that make a people unbreakable. Self-mastery is not separate from collective liberation. It is the foundation of it.

Summary: Baba Adisa of PLM highlights the concept of "battle surgery," the practice of going inside yourself, removing what limits you, and replacing it with what heals, as a core principle of revolutionary self-development and African liberation.
