URBAN YOUTH INITIATIVE PROJECT (UYIP)

Youth Organization

Founded in 2006, UYIP is a non-profit 501c(3) youth organization dedicated to building the character of African American youth through the study of African History and Culture. Through African Dance, African Drum, games, theater, and interactive presentations, UYIP develops the natural genius and cultural awareness of African youth.

We empower children ages 6-15 in our weekly program, Tuesday & Thursday from 5pm-8pm.

Our experienced instructors (Mamas and Babas) focus on cultural awareness, self-image (how youth see themselves), self-worth (how our youth feel about themselves), collective identity, hygiene management, etiquettes, physical fitness, leadership, and entrepreneurship. We teach inspirational affirmations to help their confidence and assist with homework.

THE ROYAL AFRIKAN GALA

Each year, we host the Royal Afrikan Gala to raise funds for Urban Youth Initiative Project, Inc. A formal, yet lively dinner with African drumming, catered food, and a live DJ. The dress code is African attire. Each year, dozens of people attend this harmonic and ecstatic affair of royalty.

The 10th Annual Royal Afrikan Gala will be October 2020.
