What is Scientific Pan-Africanism - Part 1 - The Basics

Scientific Pan-Africanism is Pan-Africanism evolved to a more refined state. In the history of Pan-Africanism, Its early formulators have offered much and sought to pass the torch for its further development. Unfortunately, due to a number of factors, the baton was dropped as Pan-Africanism became too broadly defined and infused with other, non-African thought.

Assessing the deficiency, Baba Imhotep Fatiu, leader of PLM, has coined the term, provoking inquiry from those who have espoused an interest in Pan-Africanism but have been confused by detractors or demagogues of Pan-Africanism. Let's examine the fundamentals of the term:

  • "Scientific" means a systematic process and application of knowledge involving observation, study and experimentation.

  • "Pan" means all

  • "African" refers to authentic and indigenous African people

  • "Ism" refers to the doctrine or ideology of something

Thus "Africanism" refers to a doctrine specific to African people. "Pan" ensures that this doctrine encompasses the totality of authentic African thought and "Scientific" is institutionalizing and systematizing the all-encompassing authentic African thought.

Scientific Pan-Africanism is ultimately a working definition and systematic outline for Pan-Africanism. It is a synthesis (combining) of African history and culture and fusing it into a thought and behavior system that is utilized and tailored to the needs of African people. In the case of Black people in America, it restores our connection to Africa, allowing us to better purge from European values and assuming the role and responsibility of continuing African history here in America. We realize that our spiritual transformation, our divinities, our source of power comes from the great women and men we have produced in this land. Just as the Yoruba people hold power in the development of Ifa, Black people in America hold a power in our - soon to be developed - African spiritual expression. For the Fatius of PLM, this expression is developing through Nommo and while it caters to the African experience in America; it seeks to unify with other authentic African spiritual expressions found globally.

The ultimate objective of Scientific Pan-Africanism is African sovereignty, commencing initially in our location an extending globally. With the current push for self-determination seen in Ayiti (Haiti), Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso, the time is now to utilize Scientific Pan-Africanism as the ideology to determine the conceptual orientation and subsequent actions of those of us in the diaspora!
